USAID Chief Reports Possible Criminal Referrals to DOJ

Congressman points out that fraud is a criminal act.

Acting Administrator for U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) Peter Marocco gave a closed-door briefing on his agency to members of the House Foreign Affairs Committee last week, where he informed them that President Trump’s administration is considering filing criminal allegations with the Justice Department against USAID employees and recipients for misuse of foreign assistance.

Representative Keith Self of Texas said, “If they are detecting outright fraud, not just bad programs, not just ignoble programs, not just programs that don’t support the national interest of the United States, if they’re finding fraud, then absolutely the wrongdoers should be prosecuted.”

The majority voiced support for this shift in USAID policy. Representative Brian Mast, the committee’s chair, said these decisions were important for “making sure again that the priority is to put dollars into programs that save life — food, medication and things like that — and not all the other BS that is going on, the radical liberal things.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Acting Administrator Marocco as he oversees the U.S. Agency for International Development.
  • For members of Congress as they hold hearings and investigations into the actions of federal agencies and their officials.
